The company was established in 1991 under the name SMB (Servo Motory Brno) as a Czech company. Since 2001, it has become part of the American Danaher Corporation group, and in 2004 it moved to the new premises of the production plant in Modřice. Since 2004, it has been constantly growing and expanding production by transferring new lines from abroad. In October 2018, Kollmorgen s.r.o. under the wings of the American corporation Altra Industrial Motion and in addition to the development and production of motors for the robotic industry, it also supplies motors to healthcare and various production lines (food and packaging lines).
